JomLaunch 2022 Recap

JomLaunch 2022

Case Closed

JomLaunch 2022 has reached its finale. The experience we felt at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur was one to remember. It is an incredible feat that a group of programmers managed to hold an ecstatic event for 4-days at a prestigious venue, especially when you consider JomLaunch is usually a one-day event.

Highlights

Day 1

JomLaunch had a Cybersecurity conference held by RAWSEC. Azra Rizal Noor Azman’s segment showcased how critical Cybersecurity is in this day and age. On the flip side, the speakers also highlighted how Cyber Scams are becoming more prevalent. Scamming less tech-savvy people becomes easier when you have the anonymity of hiding behind a screen. Thus, all the more reason Cybersecurity should be a priority.

The organizers of JomLaunch 2022 visited our booth as well to greet us on the First Day!

Day 2

JomLaunch had a conference on Open Source. The speakers came from diverse backgrounds and had years of experience in their field. Some points of interest were talks on Blockchain & cryptocurrency. We were fortunate enough to attend a pocket talk on this, where Jessica Chuah from Chainalysis talked about compliance risk and how important it is to protect consumers.

The third day of the event was sponsored by RunCloud, which wanted to share its insights on cutting-edge business & technology insight gained from the digital transformation that stems from cloud adoption. Another highlight of the day was seeing Ustaz Nazrey Johani perform live and getting to meet so many wonderful people at our booth.

Day 4

On the final day, the closing consisted of a ceremony of JOMLAUNCH Youth and RunCloud Education as a part of MOSTI’s Techlympics program. Since the launch of the JomLaunch Youth 2022 initiative, over 1,000 people aged 18 to 30, have registered to increase their technical knowledge and skills. On the last day, many students got sponsored by MOSTI to attend the event. They were able to listen to the talks and check out the exhibits. Allowing them to meet people with real-world experiences in the courses they study.

Global eLearning Conference MootGlobal Barcelona 2022 Rewind

Global eLearning Conference

As the Global eLearning Conference, MootGlobal 2022 comes to a close, as things have simmered, it’s a good time to look back at the events that developed.

It was an event that housed Moodlers and eLearning enthusiasts with a similar goal: to advance eLearning in their way. There were over 800 delegates from 60 countries that presented a whopping 124 presentations and 24 sponsors, exceeding predictions. Martin Dougiamas, CEO of Moodle, described this event as one of the largest and best Moots so far.

Day 1 Highlights

Martin Dougiamas, the CEO and founder of Moodle, gave the opening keynote address of the day. However, Martin gave a different keynote this time around compared to previous Moots. He talked about how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can change education and the importance of embracing new technologies such as AI in education.

Moodle site management and integrations, Accessibility, and UX Supporting an international and diverse community Using Moodle in unique and unexpected ways and Integrations / Healthcare, Learner-centred education: empowering learners and teachers, and Testing were just a few from the plethora of topics that were brought up in the fascinating talks and workshops that took place day 1.

To top it all off, cookies were arranged around the Moodle “M” around midday, with a cake in the center, to commemorate Moodle’s 20th anniversary! Cake and 840 wishes are the best way to say “Happy Birthday”!

Day 2 Highlight

The second day started off with a banger as Andreia Inamorato, an international researcher, lecturer, public speaker, and consultant in digital education, educational technologies, and open education was the keynote speaker for the day delivering a talk on ‘Educating for the future: the transformative power of openness’.

Performing brain surgery on the beating heart of Moodle and Adapting course formats to 4.0 were great workshops to pique everyone’s interest first thing in the morning. Following that were workshops on Integrating Mobile apps with Moodle and how it can improve your teaching. Moodle founder and CEO, Martin Dougiamas himself presented on the topic of Moodle NextGen as an Open Edtech component before the next segment covering Moodle of the Future, Moodle site management, and Analytics started.

We felt privileged to have had the chance to present at the Global eLearning Conference 2022 alongside such incredible people who are well-known in the industry. Along with a host of other esteemed presenters, Sam Suresh showed how Mobile Apps can be used for learning.

Day 2 also featured two competitions, the winners of which would receive a ticket to the 2023 MoodleMoot. To join the first competition, you had to tweet a photo of your goofy socks using the hashtags #MootGlobal22 and #sillysocks. The pair of socks with the most absurd and inventive design would be declared the winner.

The second task took place that evening at the Moot party, a costume party with a “time travel” theme. Tickets to MoodleMoot 2023 would be awarded to the best-dressed contestant. The party featured a tonne of creative costumes because Moodlers know how to party!
